The 2020 NBA Playoff Proposal

Image
by Danno On Wednesday, March 11, NBA player Enes Kanter tested positive for COVID-19, and NBA Commission Adam Silver made a leadership move to suspend the NBA season until further notice. I say "leadership move", because at that point in time, most Americans were completely unaware that something serious was going on, and it took several more weeks for most government officials to take such a stand. For example, Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers stay-at-home order began 2 weeks later on March 25th, and he was still widely criticized for it then. I'm generally a fan of all Wisconsin professional sports, but I've been a big Lakers fan since the mid-'80s, so I was really looking forward to a Lakers-Bucks NBA Finals this year.  State-by-state, and store-by-store, we are now in the process of "opening up" the economy again. In lieu of a vaccine, obviously we aren't going to be able to stick 25,000 fans in an enclosed arena any time soon. Makes you wonder

Where Are We Going?

Image
by Danno The most frequent question I'm getting from non-clients is, "Where do you think we're going from here?"  What they really mean is, "Where do you think the stock market is going from here?"   What they are really feeling is, "Should I get out now before this thing crashes again?" Before I share what I think, let's be clear, no one knows what the stock market is going to do next. Ever. Stocks can always go up, down, or sideways. Smart-sounding people will get in front of you, put on their best face, and make bold, definitive, directional statements, essentially calling their shot. They'll give a rational and compelling justification for it, and it makes for good TV. Some of them will end up being "right," but not because they knew what was going to happen. They will end up being correct because it's a multiple choice question, so 1/3 have to end up being right. For those who happen to guess correctly, they will

Divergent Realities

Image
by Danno I'm tired of the news.  It's been almost 8 weeks now of non-stop Coronavirus.  Once the initial shock and awe passed, the politics jumped to the forefront.   It's amazing to me how differently people can experience the same reality. Increasingly, everyone gets to customize their own reality, and live in their own little world. If you watch MSNBC right now, it's all about the death, the horror, blaming the President for everything, the President not listening to the scientists, the President isn't showing leadership, we're opening too soon, the scientists, the scientists, the scientists, and the sad stories of those who have gotten sick and/or died.  Over, and over, and over, and over. If you watch Fox News right now, it's all about the oppression of your civil rights, the defending of the President and redirecting blame, the President "closing" down travel from China early, the branding of the "Chinese Wuhan Virus", the
