Brain Food - 2019-11-27

by Danno I'm reading, listening to, and watching financial-related stuff every day.  LOTS of stuff!  On a pretty regular basis I'll pass books back and forth with close friends, or we'll forward podcasts or articles to one another. Friends who know me will read something and say "Danno would like this", and they'll pass it along.   When I first started wanting to learn more about investing, I learned that it is very easy to find yourself going down the wrong path, reading or listening to or watching the wrong things that don't matter.  I watched hundreds of hours of CNBC and YouTube.  I read hundreds of articles, Twitter feeds, whitepapers, blogs. I also would talk to my stockbroker and pick his brain regularly.  Much of it was a colossal waste of time and money, sorting through the junk to do the necessary learning of what things actually matter. Damn Onions

by Danno Just stop for a minute and think about how your interests, your focus, and your biggest problems (from your own perspective) change over time... When you're a little boy, maybe you were interested in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Excitebike, and Double Dragon.  The biggest problems in your life are that you have to take out the Nintendo game cartridge and blow on it once in awhile, there are no more blue Flavor Ice in the freezer, and your brother doesn't use the toothpaste tube the right way. At some point you became interested in Hulk Hogan and the Macho Man.  "Say your prayers, and eat your vitamins... Brother!".  Your big brother beats your ass as you wrestle in the livingroom. Someday you'll turn the tables on him, but not today. You turn 5. Dad is shooting buckets in the driveway, you wanna play.  You can get the ball up to the hoop hanging from the garage, you even start making some, so you start shooting more, even when no one else is ou
